Right so, everyone wants to pretend they're cool and suave and only have the best taste in music. The thing is, everyone has AT LEAST one song/artist that despite their cool facade, they totally dig. You can dye your hair green and spend your weekends collecting battle scars in mosh-pits, but at the end of the night, you're going to be singing Whitney Houston in your shower.
Guess what? I LOVE the Backstreet Boys. And old-school Britney Spears. And Lady Gaga. I'm sorry. I know I've lost all of the respect of my peers, but I refuse to lie. I am a sucker for peppy, happy, catchy, lovey music. Life is all sorts of serious, so in my entertainment I want to listen/watch/partake in things that are the opposite. Don't get me wrong, the occasional tear-jerker isn't BAD, I just don't prefer it.
I won't lie to you, however, I will do my best to hide this deep, dark secret from everyone I know. The only time I REALLY get caught is with the MP3 player.
Okay listen. MP3 players are like the musical extensions of our minds. Minds are pretty personal things, yo. You don't seem me up in your head flipping through your personal mental filing cabinet, so get the heck out of mine. Flipping through someone's MP3 player (especially if they have one of those fancy ones with video) is a pretty big breach of confidence and personal space. If you ever ask to use someone's MP3 player and there is even the SLIGHTEST bit of hesitance to their '..yes...' then you should say something along the lines of 'nah, nevermind, it's okay' because the thing is, they really DON'T want you to listen to it. They're just too polite to say no. The moment you start flipping through that MP3 player you're going to shame them. Be a good friend. Just don't ask.
But keeping this in mind, if you're ever having a bad day, remember that the guy in the car at the stop light next to you rocking out to Pantera probably has Justin Beiber next on his playlist.
